Using Acupressure on CV6

CV6: Sea of Energy Point

CV6: Sea of Energy Point
One of the most empowering Acupressure points on the body is, known as the Sea of Energy or the Sea of Qi. You can do great healing on yourself and others once you know this point’s location and functions, and also how to use CV6 to fully tap its healing energy.

The Sea of Energy strengthens the body’s internal condition, especially the colon, immune system, and the sexual and urinary systems. It heightens your ability to heal yourself and also supports healthy emotional balance.

Point Location
CV6 is found in your abdomen, two finger-widths below the center of your belly button.

Basic Acupressure Instructions
Use the fingertips of one or both hands to hold CV6. The finger pressure should always be applied gradually, both to go into the point and to come out of it. Make sure to take long, slow, deep breaths the whole time you’re holding the Sea of Energy point.

Start slowly and then gradually go deeper. Next, hold the point for two to three minutes, breathing deeply. End by gradually letting go of the pressure. IMPORTANT NOTE — Go even slower and more carefully into the abdomen for anyone who is elderly or sick. During pregnancy be very gentle, using touch instead of pressure, with the palm of your hand instead of fingertips.

Point Functions
CV6 revives the body’s healing processes and develops vitality; it strengthens the digestive, immune, urinary, and sexual-reproductive systems; and it also benefits the kidneys.

Relief for Many Common Complaints
Examples are digestive disorders (stomachache, abdominal cramping, constipation, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, digestive headaches), sexual issues (menstrual cramps, impotence, infertility), insomnia, urinary incontinence, chronic fatigue & fibromyalgia, body aches, anal or rectal pains, and general weakness.

Constipation Relief
Press CV6 two or three times a day for a few minutes to relieve and prevent constipation and irritable bowel. Pressing this point activates and strengthens the large intestine, encourages peristalsis, and relaxes the abdomen. Along with this point, I’ve used Qi Gong breathing exercises. That combination is effective for constipation and irritable bowel because, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the partner of the Large Intestine is the Lungs.

Emotional & Spiritual Benefits
The Sea of Energy is good for developing emotional stability and for deepening spiritual awareness. It strengthens your sense of self, and can be used for difficulties such as self-destructive or addictive behavior and codependency.

Sexuality & Intimacy
The Sea of Qi is good for all kinds of sexual problems for both men and women. The abdominal muscles often tighten during lovemaking, which can block the flow of sexual energy. Pressing CV6 and other Acupressure points around it can relieve the abdominal tension, strengthen the urinary and reproductive systems, and increase sexual intimacy and pleasure.

You can explore the many ways Acupressure can enhance sexuality with the Acupressure for Lovers book and Video.

Longevity & Acupressure
It makes sense that the Sea of Energy point can improve your vitality and overall health and enable you to live longer. Two to three minutes of firm to deep pressure on this point, while breathing slowly and deeply into your belly, strengthens all of your internal organs and develops your healing energy reserves.

For this reason, I have made a vow to myself that I will try to press this point and breathe deeply into it every night before going to sleep. I believe that working on this point in bed with super slow, deep breathing, opens the flow of healing energy while I’m asleep, and thus provides extraordinary healing benefits.

Any worries or regrets in your life will fade away, and you’ll get more focused and feel more vital, if you continue to practice breathing deeply into this life-giving Acupressure CV6 point.
